📢 Important Update for Virginia SNAP Recipients

Virginia will temporarily issue state-funded food assistance on a weekly basis to households’ existing EBT cards while federal SNAP benefits are delayed.

These state funds, called the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) program, will:
✅ Use the same EBT cards and beneficiaries as SNAP
✅ Deliver about ¼ of monthly benefits each week
✅ Begin issuing benefits on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in November

For questions or the latest updates, visit DSS.Virginia.gov
or contact your local Department of Social Services office.

Graphic titled “Virginia Acts to Protect SNAP Recipients.” It announces that Governor Glenn Youngkin has launched the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) program to provide state-funded food assistance amid a federal shutdown. The program uses the same EBT cards and beneficiaries as SNAP, is funded by Virginia’s budget surplus, and delivers about one-quarter of monthly benefits each week—$37.5 million weekly statewide. Benefits are issued Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in November. The chart lists new VENA payment dates for SNAP groups: Group 1 – Monday, November 3; Group 2 – Wednesday, November 5; Group 3 – Friday, November 7. The graphic also notes that updates and FAQs are available at DSS.Virginia.gov and reminds recipients to keep their EBT cards secure using the ConnectEBT app.

Staff dressed in Toy Story themed costumes pose in the main hallway. TOY STORY
An image of a group of people, many dressed in Toy Story character costumes, lying motionless on the floor of a school hallway, mimicking the scene where the toys "go limp" when their owner, Andy, enters the room. The scene includes: A person dressed as Woody (in the foreground, lying face-up with a red hat and cow-print chaps). A person dressed as Jessie (lying next to Woody, in a white shirt and red pigtails). A person dressed as Buzz Lightyear (lying on their stomach, visible on the right with a green and white costume). Other individuals are in various poses and costumes, some resembling other Toy Story characters or generic clothing. Two adults are standing on the periphery, looking at the group on the floor. One is a man in a dark blue shirt and a cowboy hat, and the other is a woman in a black t-shirt with a white skull design. The setting appears to be a school hallway, with a sign reading "WELCOME TO Farmington ELEMENTARY SCHOOL" visible on the left wall. The walls have a two-tone pattern of white and beige brick. Potted plants hang from the ceiling. The floor is light-colored tile. This image captures a playful group activity, likely a costumed event at the school.
4 teachers dressed like the book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish standing in the school hallway
A woman dressed as Velma from Scooby-Doo (wearing an orange turtleneck, red pleated skirt, black tights, orange knee socks, and red shoes) stands next to a smiling young boy. The woman is wearing glasses and has her hands on her hips. The boy wears a green t-shirt, tan pants, and brown boots, and holds a small brown stuffed animal. They are in a library or media center, with a wooden bookshelf full of books to their left and a bright window behind them. Two large cartoon cutouts of Scooby-Doo (sitting on the left) and Velma (standing on the right) are placed on the carpeted floor next to them.
